Using wordpress themes with two or three columns ?

It’s a simple question if you ask me. From what I know there are over 100 million bloggers right now on the internet and almost 40% of them are using wordpress. Now, I don’t have time to look over all the blogs, but from what I have seen almost 70% of the bloggers use two columns themes. Now this is a problem, because all the tow columns themes don’t give you the opportunity to expand and add new things to it. For example me, I have three columns, the main one for content, one for categories and some ads and the third which is a bit larger, for banners, links and other stuff that doesn’t have the width over 310px. This theme has a lot of advantages because of the width, but here is an example of a well known entrepreneur, Zac Johnson who has, in my opinion, a nice two columns theme, but with low opportunities of adding new stuff in the sidebar. In his last article he wrote about the well known widget from Blogrush and about the fact that he can’t add and test it because of his little sidebar. Bad luck, what can I say, he should enlarge that column or add another one because his main content area is to large ( on all my websites the main part isn’t larger than 500px ). A good example, is the new redesign from John Chow dot com, who has now a theme with two columns, main width of 960px and a sidebar of 310px I think. Now this panda killer can add in there a lot of ad types, links and widgets and of course some rocks to throw you know where.

K so what I want to say is that it’s not necessary to hire a webdesigner to create you an unique design, because there are a lot free themes out there that aren’t used and of course chose one that gives you opportunities to add new things to it( I recommend themes with three columns).
