Same wordpress content on multiple domains

In the past few days I was looking for a wordpress plugin that could help me use two domains with the same content from a single blog. And of course, the world is so small that only one coder thought to make such a plugin. From my searches I found mkaleavy.org, a nice blog based more on the photography topic, but the thing is he had what I wanted and so I thank him. The plugin is called Domain mirror and it allows you to use multiple domains on the same wordpress blog as I mention previously, but it also changes all your links for every domain. An example, from the authors page: McAleavy or LightPainting and as you can see it also changes the blogs title and description. This plugin has two versions, v1.1 that is a bit old but stable and version 1.2 beta which I am using now with no problems from what I’ve tested. Here are the main futures from the authors page:

    New in v1.1

You can now have a separate tagline on each domain.
The Admin screen has a button to copy in the current WordPress configuration to save on typing.
The Admin screen has buttons to clear content from whole domains and indivudual lines.
    New in v1.2beta

      Theme switching.
      SERVER_NAME / HTTP_HOST config option.
      “no admin screen” switch.
      More validation.
      Added “stripcslashes”

Also the installation is very easy, you only have to unzip, upload the files to your wp-content/plugins and then enable it from your control panel. Besides that you have to park your new domain on the same folder your first domain is.
In conclusion, I thank him and you can find more info, download links on his blog or you can download it from my mirror (it’s the beta version)

  • Most people try to avoid getting duplicate content in Google, so that’s probably why it’s not as common as you might expect :(

  • Ah you are right :) but for the problem that I had I really needed this plugin

  • very interesting, but I don’t agree with you

  • I wrote a very similar plugin that has the added benefit of allowing you to select a different theme based on the domain name. This maybe considered essential as sometimes you want your site to be viewed with a theme that changes the content, omits content (this ‘g-rated’ version or lightweight/short URL mobile version). Just having the same site mirrored to the same content can get you banned on Google search index according to many SEO experts.

Here’s my plug for my first GPL plugin on WordPress!

  • I want to use multiple themes with DIFFERENT content, but running like this:

my guitar lesson blog here: http://www.LogicalLeadGuitar.com/wordpress

and a completely different set of content, using the Branford magazine WP theme here: http://www.LogicalLeadGuitar.com/magazine (this isn’t active yet)

    Can this be done?

Someone out there must be running multiple themes with different content….

  • Mentioned plugin name was what I was looking for 6 hours. Thanks A LOT!

  • Hello,
Your plugin is what i am looking for to have a seperate subdomain by country (each french country by example)(fr.mysite.com, be.mysite.com, etc.).
I need this for SEO because my site is well referenced only in the country where my server is located.
I’d like to declare different subdomains in the google webmaster tool.
I saw on your printscreen that every domain have to start with www. Why do you limit only domain starting with www ?
    Best regards,
    Dimitri

  • When i was searching on how to avoid duplicate content , i came across google webmasters and read that if the content is/comes from the same IP/server , then it will NOT be considered duplicate content.
Thank you for this post , to bad for me i found this 2 years after you wrote it :)
