One year ago, I had some ”problems” with a wordpress theme because I wanted a simple thingy and I didn’t know how to do it: make certain stuff (ads, categories, widgets) to appear or disappear depending on the type of page I wanted to add them. This trick is good for placing, rotating ads especially in the header, sidebar and footer, based on conditional tags that are built in wordpress.
The first conditional tag that describes your index or home page is: is_home(). I will write you an example shortly but now I let me explain why you should use this. Let’s say you have an ad spot of 728×90px in your header or footer and in that spot you want a certain banner to appear when you are browsing the index page and another banner when you are reading a post or viewing a category page. Many of you think that Alexa Rank is important, but it’s not important at all, you’ll be disappointed to find out that your traffic will not increase significantly if you’re planning to advertise on websites with a high rank. Why? Because Alexa has a stupid way of ranking websites, based on users that have Alexa Toolbar installed which comes with Internet Explorer and so it cannot be thought of as an unbiased statistical measure.
I got fooled a few times by this ranking method, when I tried to buy a link and I thought that by comparing the traffic rank from one of my websites (around 2100 unique visitors/day | Alexa: 75223) with the sellers website rank (Alexa: 32400) will result in a precise number of uqv/day. But it was all wrong, until I asked the owner for some serious statistics and I found out that he had less traffic than me (around 1600/day). This means that he had many more visitors with Internet Explorer browsing his website.
A big problem nowadays is that Alexa Rank is taken in consideration when buying links or ad spaces (ex: text link ads) because publishers can set a higher price per link if they have a nice rank. There are a few ways to increase your Alexa rank but in my opinion it’s a waste of precious time, here is a little list of things you should do:

Nobody wants to be robbed, especially on holidays! Yesterday on digg.com I found out that one of the most appreciated logo designers was robbed of his domain name and probably of some personal information, because Google Mail can be hacked by anybody with a little e-mail hijack technique. Now the cow (John Cow not John Chow) has been robbed too, not of her tits but of her premium wordpress theme which in my opinion doesn’t looks that great, but it is his propriety and he can do what he wants with it.
The thing is that John Cows wp theme was released on warez forums for free and the man who posted it is a so called entrepreneur who is trying to make money out of others work! Ironically he is searching for new staff for his warez forum on digital point forums and I don’t understand how he is allowed to post such an offer; now I see how many people can be idiots for only 3$!
Anyways something should be done with all those warez websites even if there is no law against them unless they are actually storing illegal files on their server. Some reporting websites should be released!

Dear Santa,
I am a little boy and I think you already know this. The thing is that this is my first year on the internet and I started to do some interesting stuff, maybe you know what a blog or blogging is. If not you should google for it, of course if you have a computer and you know how to use it! I’ll get straight to the point, maybe you can understand me after all: blogging every day is hard, I destroyed my brain searching for information and learning every day from ebooks and other pwnage bloggers. This means that I am a studios boy and after all I behaved well all the year, because my social life is kinda over and I didn’t have with who to argue or fight! Now because I was a good boy all the year I want you to bring some gifts.
