As you all know a week ago I released a wordpress theme called Chrome tweaks. This theme was specially designed for a blog in the web browsers niche and my main objective was/is to get top rankings in search engines for certain keywords. So far everything works fine, but the reason I write this article is because I want to share some info about this niche and furthermore, some webmasters are curious (I know I would be too) and want some statistics .

To begin with, I know that in this period, Google Chrome is maybe one of the most searched keywords in the technology niche for the simple fact that it’s a product made by big G. Because the product is a browser, it creates other subniches, as with Firefox, we have for example three or four: themes, add-ons, tweaks and “in general”.

From what I’ve tested so far the most searched keywords are related to addons, which gives me the impression that this is by far the best niche. Why? Because if you are smart you would realize that you can sell addons when the right time comes or release some for free and your traffic will probably increase.

Besides that I can tell you that I am on the main page of Google (not in top 5) for some keywords related to add-ons and I get around 500-600 unique visitors for them. I also believe that the dudes from first and second position get approximately 2000 u/v, which is great. In my case I am now receiving a total of 1400 u/v/day for all the keywords related to this niche and bellow you have a graph from my Google Analytics account which shows the traffic on the Chrome Tweaks blog, which has little content.

Putting all together I think this niche has some future and you can either get in now, or wait for a stable version of Chrome with “full options”, because it is quite impossible to generate new content about this browser.

Yesterday, 26 July 2008, Google updated their famous PageRank and from what I can see my blog has pagerank 5 now. I see this update has an improvement for my blog, because I’ve made a few things to increase my backlinks and even if my pagerank had fallen from 4 to 3 or 0 I would see that as an improvement because it lets me know that I did something wrong and I need to repair it as soon as possible. Keep in mind that a bad experience with Google’s PageRank is good, because you’ll learn new things by researching the problem and you’ll find new ways to improve pagerank.

Another great thing with this new pagerank update is that for the first time Google informed webmasters through Matt Cutts’s blog that they would update the PageRank Toolbar in a few days. For sure this stopped the chaos in the webmasters world and on forums like digitalpoint and sitepoint, where noobies were starting threads every 5 minutes asking if pr updated.

So from my experience I can tell you a few ways (except submitting to web and article directories) to improve your pagerank.

1. Create your own blog network. If you have a few blogs which you update frequently, you have the opportunity to link them and pagerank will for sure increase for them. I’ve made this with an article directory which is constantly pagerank 5 after two updates. How I did this? Well I added a link to it on all my blogs and I made sure that it doesn’t link to other websites (I think it has only one link).

2. Create your own keywords. Although it has never been confirmed (like the rumor that the older your blog is the higher your pagerank will be) I think that branding some keywords, creating some new ones gives your website/blog an identity which might influence the pagerank algorithm. For example I have a few keywords like: AcosminMAG, AcosminTYPO, Acosmin etc which are not used on other blogs. Also some bloggers link to me with the an anchor text that contains those keywords.

3. Try Internal Linking. This will for sure increase the authority of certain pages on your website/blog or even on your index. From what I’ve tested some pages on this blog like the “wordpress themes” page has a few links from some of my posts and so it is one of the most visited pages on this blog and has it’s own pagerank (I am talking about organic traffic).

Here are a few things you shouldn’t do:

1. Links from Social Bookmarking websites are strange! I know they help you get your posts indexed faster, but how many of you seen that those SB websites rank higher than you in searchengines. If you only want to get traffic from SB websites and get indexed faster then use them, but if you want to be on the first position for something try to get links for your articles from somewhere else. In the same time I think that links from social bookmarking websites are equal to 0 when it comes to pagerank .

2. Don’t use link farms. I’ve seen a lot of bloggers using this method to increase their pagerank and in the same time they were panelized by Google with a pagerank decrease or a ban in the search engine. It is not worth it, because links from link farms are equal to 0 and it is considered a spam method.

3. Obviously don’t sell links. You know that Google started a war with link sellers and you should not add things like “sponsored links” on your blog. Instead try to add links only in your blog roll and don’t exceed more than 10 links.

I hope you are happy with your new pagerank.

Yep, this is the day when we see how well google likes us. My pagerank got updated from pr 3 to pagerank 4 and I was expecting this because I tried to gain some backlinks in the past three months. Now from what I see some of the top bloggers recovered their pagerank for example problogger is at pr6 now but some remain the same ex johnchow, who is at pr4 because he is selling links and he is so evil .

Hope your page rank has improved because I really think this day, 12.01.2008 is the official google pagerank update day

I hope you’ve seen the movie “I am legend” starring Will Smith (Robert Neville), otherwise go to a cinema and see it, because in my opinion it’s a great movie. To get an idea about the movie, read the summary from imdb link here. Now let’s compare the story from “I am legend” with Google. I can only imagine that Google is the virus because it has behaved like one since the beginning and so, over the years it has “infected” us by spreading very fast on the internet (in the world) with the help of the monsters (spider bots) that are working full-time to provide the best cache for this search engine.

Because Google is the best virus, people have spread the word about it (infecting other persons) and so it has monopole in this industry for now. But wait, there are some persons out there that are immune to this virus; those persons are all the other search engines like Yahoo, MSN etc, the only problem is that they aren’t good enough to defeat it and save the world. Now comes Robert Neville in action! Who is he? Well he represents all the other projects started with the main goal > destroy Google. I don’t know if you remember, but a few months ago, Germany (Theseus) has started a project that can be described in a few words: “the world’s most advanced multimedia search engine for the next-generation Internet”. Now this can be our salvation, a cure for Google’s domination.

In conclusion I would like a cure like this, because I like new stuff, but until then we remain infected and I think that one day Google will own us. Let’s hope not and go see the movie because it already owns me!

As you all know Google is planning to create a phone , GPhone, and for this project they have bought some important companies such as Android (2005), GrandCentral Communications and some groups of experts in mobile phones. As they are still working on this new generation mobile, the team from google adsense has lunched Adsense for mobile, which helps webmasters add a different code in their websites that will display ads when people are browsing from the phone. In my opinion this is all marketing. Why? Because it is clearly that they will make a phone that will display those ads better than on the iphone or other mobilephones and because they are the biggest brand in the world, everyone is gone buy it. Now, Google’s problem is to make webmasters use this type of making revenue because the mobile advertising market is small and they have to increase it until their gphone is lunched this year or next year. That is a smart move from them because they have it all planed out. First creat the advertising network and then make a phone that will surely be sold better than the iphone and of course that will bring revenue from those ads. Interesting, no?

Sean Cornwell, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Google UK, said that

AdSense for Mobile provides a valuable way to connect mobile users with the right ad at the right time as they seek information on the go, whilst offering publishers another way to increase their revenues.

Oh yeah, and your revenues as well. In conclusion I am waiting for the new gphone to click some ads.

As you all know a new Google pagerank is expected since April , when the last update occurred and from some reasons I can say that the new update will have a major impact on some big sites and on web directories. Why do I think so? Because Google is working hard in changing the algorithm in a such way that paid links don’t count for PR and for some of us the tests that they are doing are a pain in the ass. For example, me, I have some niche websites on some good keywords that rank on the first page but in the last two – three weeks my traffic has dropped of 40% and of course the revenue as well. I hate this all system of being dependent of only one search engine, but that’s how things work. As I said their tests made me loss some money but I must agree with their future changes because a lot of spam sites are on the first pages in google search, with a PR based on paid links and that screws all my evil plans. So, for those who don’t know to how to get backlinks here are some tips that will help you.
It all starts with good content. This is the first step in succeeding with your website, blog because if you have that piece created you can do the following steps:

Social Bookmarking has been in the last two years the place where all the magic happened. Why? Because it’s the place from where you can get traffic, backlinks and rss readers in the same time. So submitting to digg, netscape, stumble or other sbw is one of the best ways of getting links.

Another important thing if you have big and good articles , you can submit them to important article directories such as articlecity, enzinearticles . This is a good source of backlinks because first of all you get a link from an important website, you get targeted traffic that will also link to you if they like your article.

For bloggers it is always good to leave comments on bigger blogs that are targeted to your topic. This won’t help for your pagerank because the link from the comments will have the nofollow statement, but it will surely send you some traffic.

My favorite is creating themes, plugins, widgets for blogs. You can’t imagine how many backlinks you can get from this, or traffic. It is one of the easiest way, of course for those who know how to create them, because you can leave a link to your blog or website in the footer or in the blogroll.

ReviewME is another solution, if you have some dinero to spend or a simpler way is linking to other blogs in hope that they will link back(or review for free). Just do it and you will see some results .

In conclusion, I am looking forward for the new page rank update and I hope that all the tam tam with paid links is true.

How frequently do you post? This is an good question, because it is very important to maintain a regular number of posts for every day, week. You will say that more important is to have good content targeted to your subject. This is very true to, but make a little experiment, post for five days every day and then look into your blog log/statistics and you will see the google crawl will come to your site every day, at fixed hours. Now this means that you will be indexed every day and if you have good content that is targeted on your main keywords you will grow in google searchs > more traffic. You can see this technique at a lot of bloggers, they post at certain hours every day and of course good content.
For example John Chow dot Com, you can see that he is using this method, and I remember that in one day his site was down and in that period of time the google bot crawled is blog and so he lost a lot of positions in searches. What I want to say is that if you post good content frequently, every day, at certain hours you will see a differance.

Some of you know that on the internet are a lot of ebooks that learn how to make money online with niche websites, but in fact a lot of them are created to sell some products. An example of such software is Keyword Elite, that can be found in almost every ebook on the net. This software lets you analyse keyword searches, results … and other stuff. My question is why buy such software when you have a lot of free webtools on the internet? In this post I would like to tell you some of the free tools.
K so first of all when creating a niche website you need to analyse the market, with what websites your are in comptetition and so on…
The first tool that is free is, yes Google. For example if you like to see the number of websites that have in their content the keyword phrase you are looking for, you will have to search for that keyword and phrase and I advise you to use quotation marks “”. You can see an example the next image and it is good to know that the lower the nr of pages founr is the gooder ther market is:

The second tool which is very importan it is also free and it helps you to see how much searches a keyword has. Wordtraker, I’ve been using this webtool for some time and I can say it’s very good.

The next tool and final is Google trends that will make you an impression of how big the traffic is for certain keywods or phrases. Here is a tip when you want to estimate the traffic just type in a keyword/phrase that you already have indexed by google and what traffic it brings you and then with after a comma type the keyword you want to estimate( phrases in quote marks). Go to this link to see an example.

In my opinion this tools are much more simple to use and are very good for keyword research. I will return with a tutorial on how to create a niche website

A lot of people define web2.0 as a progression from what was the internet in the 90′ and what it is now, in 2007. K, so in the past , web1.0, there was only text and images because people didn’t have stable and high internet connections, now almost everyone has a broadband internet connection and for this fact the technology has evolved and now we have video, chats, radio, social networks, podcasting and other types, this is the so called web2.0 . In my opinion this is only the normal way of progression, as if you were a child and you grow mature, so I don’t think it was really necessary to define this progression with a certain word like web2.0 . In conclusion web1.0 = HTML, Web Presentations, web 2.0 = API/AJAX, Mass Collaboration and web3.0 = I don’t know, maybe Semantic Web + AI. You can see in this movie with Eric Schmidt, CEO at Google, the best definition for this terms:

After Viacom INC has sued and asked Google to pay them one billion $ for some video copyright-infringement on Youtube, Google is thinking of implementing a new method of antypiracy. This method is something like the technology used by the FBI with fingerprint authentification, but for Youtube it will have the role of allowing copyright owners to auth themself and delete the copyrighted video in one ore two minutes. For this technology Google is working with the best companies that have the structure for this method of fingerprinting and it is planing to lunch it in September with full “options”. As you can see Google does not want to pay anymore claimed damages to the owners of the videos and I think that they will do a great work with the new implementation for Youtube. Good luck!
