At the moment I am working on a new project and because I know that it has been a while since my last free wordpress theme, I think you’ll be able to download a new one soon. I don’t know when, but stay tuned (you can subscribe to my rss feed ). Above you can see a little preview, a part of the header; click on the image to enlarge it.

WordPress theme specs:

• Two sidebars – one with a width of 300px and the other with a width of 125px.
• SiFR – after thinking a while I came to the conclusion that using sifr for the headings in the sidebars are the perfect solution, because anyone can edit them.
• AD spots – all types.
• Widget ready – yes, this wordpress theme is widgets ready, both sidebars are compatible.
• Included PSD file – for the logo. Just save it as a png file with transparency and it should be fine.
• Gravatars – for comments.
• Tags – only in the article and you can add a tagcloud in the 300px sidebar.
• Navigation – I know there are only three buttons “home, about, contact” (not enough space) but I’ve included in the 125px sidebar the rest of the links for the pages …
• Valid XHTML and CSS
• No sponsored links or things like that so please leave my links intact.

NOTE: Beta version, I will add things to this wordpress theme so stay tuned … you can subscribe to my RSS feed. Gift card messages dot com has an Alexa rank of about 400k, 100 unique visitors/day and Google Pagerank 0. The owner sets the BIN at 80000$. The problem is he really thinks that his website is worth that much and he argues with all the guys who posted an opinion. Now here’s the funny part:

As I said within just 2 months a brand new website from un-rank to 398,677 is a quick grow. After 1 month using Google Adwords I’ve learned that there are a lot of users who were looking for messages to write in their cards. The idea of GiftcardMessages.com is unique and you won’t see many website like it around. If you guys have money, then should invest in it now and do more advertise. I believe GiftcardMessages.com will become more popular in no time.
The price maybe is too high for a new website 2 months old but its future is so bright. This is a high demand website without competitors. You won’t get this price next year when it ranks 50K on Alexa and has PR=5 plus
…
Why would I? You will be regretted if next year you hear this site is sold $500K – you could make $450K right now – no kidding.

Isn’t that funny? It is if you have a little knowledge about selling websites…

• Bad reputation which might transform into good reputation if your website or blog has great content.

Unfortunately some people enjoy watching on the Internet gore and disturbing content and in my opinion they are lunatics, but that is their problem as long as I don’t meet them on the street . The fact is that this movie, “Untraceable”, was promoted and is promoting a website called killwithme.com. In the movie this website is the place where the psycho hacker was broadcasting live his crimes and in the real world, this is the website that promotes the movie (the official website), with an interesting marketing strategy. As you can see bellow in the alexa ranking charts, killwithme.com has two periods of time when it was highly browsed, on 25 January 2008 when ”Untraceable” was released in USA and this period of the month (April) when the movie was released in other countries, on DVD’s or blu-ray rips especially.

As you can see the traffic and alexa rank for this website is increasing and a funny thing is that most of the users come from the United Kingdom and not from USA where all the action happened and where the movie was released. Maybe the United Kingdom has more psychos, just joking!

It is interesting how a movie like this is able to create buzz, based on the fact that somewhere out there, there is an audience interested in a specific topic, prepared to spread the “news” worldwide. This method is called word of mouth marketing (WOMM) and it is great if you know how to use it. I have an idea and I think I’ll develop a website soon; don’t worry, I am not a killer lol .

Overall “Untraceable” is a great movie and I recommend you watch and analyze it, because who knows, maybe you’ll get an idea for a new website and just remember this: you are a web developer, not a killer.

Finally – Use tags
At last use technorati tags. There are a lot of plugins out there that display tags for technorati, here is just an example on wordpress.org. Also you should do a simple research for tags. Go on the front page of technorati and in the sidebar you have a section called “Tags from what’s rising”. Write about those topics and you will see some results (it’s like on google trends).

Features
Well as you can see it has three columns, because I like to have a lot of space and options. In the right sidebar you can add a lot of things and plugins like related posts, random post etc and in the left one you can add 125x125px ads or a 120x160px skyscraper, also in the header you have a 468x60px ad spot.
A new feature for me is sIFR, it’s my first time with this method and if you see some bugs please send me some feedback.
For the “logo” I included in the pack the PSD file and the font so you can edit it with Adobe Photoshop.

Many of you think that Alexa Rank is important, but it’s not important at all, you’ll be disappointed to find out that your traffic will not increase significantly if you’re planning to advertise on websites with a high rank. Why? Because Alexa has a stupid way of ranking websites, based on users that have Alexa Toolbar installed which comes with Internet Explorer and so it cannot be thought of as an unbiased statistical measure.

I got fooled a few times by this ranking method, when I tried to buy a link and I thought that by comparing the traffic rank from one of my websites (around 2100 unique visitors/day | Alexa: 75223) with the sellers website rank (Alexa: 32400) will result in a precise number of uqv/day. But it was all wrong, until I asked the owner for some serious statistics and I found out that he had less traffic than me (around 1600/day). This means that he had many more visitors with Internet Explorer browsing his website.

A big problem nowadays is that Alexa Rank is taken in consideration when buying links or ad spaces (ex: text link ads) because publishers can set a higher price per link if they have a nice rank. There are a few ways to increase your Alexa rank but in my opinion it’s a waste of precious time, here is a little list of things you should do:

• First of all try to get dugg or stumbled. If you get on the main page of digg you’ll get a burst of traffic that will maintain your Alexa rank for a month or two but of course all good things pass! Just don’t get scarred when you’ll see how your traffic history graph looks with all the ups and downs.
• If you have a website that you don’t use anymore and it has some traffic try to redirect the users that use Internet Explorer to the website that you want to pawn with. It’s very simple use the following code in your index page

• JUST DRIVE TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE

In conclusion don’t worry about your Alexa rank (it’s lame) if you know that you have the traffic you always wanted. Just try to use good software for statistics like google analytics and you will be happier and much more satisfied of the results.
