Nowadays the internet is full of blogs that debate internet marketing problems, strategies, tricks to make money online and so on and I must say that this niche is relatively new, from 2005-2006 when a few guys started this fashion in blogging. The only problem is that they don’t share good tips on how to really make money, just general stuff and lies. It’s really simple, that’s why it’s called Internet Marketing. Now here are a few things you need to know about Internet Marketing Gurus:
1. 99% of the so-called Internet Marketing Gurus lie.
Why do they lie? Marketing!? They actually lie because they want to create buzz, for example some of them at the end of every month, they have a special article about their monthly earnings and of course they can write any amount of money they want. That’s the all magic, noobs come, see that huge amount of money and start to think: “Hey look at this guy, he makes 10000$/month, I’ll try out anything he recommends because it’s so easy”. And the noob tries all the thing the guru says and with the time passing, he realizes that making money online isn’t so easy and of course he gives up.
2. It’s not your fault that you don’t succeed! Experience is all you need.
Yes, it is not your fault! Mr. Guru tells you stories actually, because the only money he makes is trough you, who reads his blog and clicks on his affiliate links. The only good thing in this story is that you’ll gain experience if you don’t give up, because in this way you research for new techniques and you’ll see that without investing money, time and passion, making money online is quite impossible.
3. Internet Marketing Gurus vs Competition!
Let’s say Mr. Guru writes and article about how he made 1 million $ online because he wants to share this information with his readers. Come on, you have a business that earns you money and you share all the information? Why would a wise guy do such a thing, to ruin the niche and bring more competition. Actually he writes such an article knowing that you’ll never succeed and because he is a real “internet marketer” and uses huge numbers, he creates that buzz. So everyone links to him, his traffic grows and he makes money from the newcomers noobies.
4. There are three types of Internet Marketing Gurus!
The ones who really make money online and don’t share any techniques.
The ones who make money and share only general information, nothing special. The only difference between this type and the above one is that they make money on your head and you gain experience following them and not succeeding.
And the last type – scammers – copycats who don’t have even one website with decent traffic and monetization. They only talk of ways to make money online, techniques which are with a question sign for them too! This type represents the majority and here is a good example of internet marketer which tries to promote his website and a product. Pathetic!

Let me start with a simple question! Why should I pay monthly for a service that is useless? Actually I don’t pay Yahoo to crawl and show my websites into their stupid search engine (this is free) but I must say that I am paying for bandwidth and resources for my dedicated server. Here is the problem! I have two article directories, each one with at least 100000 free articles and it is normal that some web crawlers to crawl my websites, but Yahoo’s crawler is a bit insupportable because of the flood it does. Yahoo Slurp was present on my website every minute, every day, crawling all my articles with an entire class of ips, ips starting with 74.6.*.* and 67.195.*.* .
You have the results bellow, in a printscreen from my awstats. Compare Yahoo to Google, given the fact that Yahoo is not sending any traffic and Google is sending 70% of my traffic.
Yahoo : 81069 Hits | 6.37 GB Bandwidth
Google : 18126 Hits | 239.73 MB Bandwidth
The solution for this problem is simple. Ban Yahoo’s ips on your server using htaccess or by using Ip deny manager from your cpanel/plesk administration center.
I added the following code to my .htaccess file to ban Yahoo’s ips:
order allow,deny
deny from 67.195.
deny from 74.6.
allow from all
You should take this in consideration if you are hosted on a shared plan, because cpu and memory resources are limited and after all Yahoo isn’t so important.
Yesterday I had a little problem with one of my blogs, which was running on the famous platform wordpress but on a outdated version, wp v2.3.2 . Actually the blog was hacked with an exploit, because I am too lazy to update and backup my blogs, plus the entire mysql database is messed up and I can’t recover it.
Why am I so lazy to update my blogs? Well as you all know updating takes a few minutes and if you have five or more blogs, the all process could take you at least one hour (not that it’s hard to update and backup wordpress, but sometimes, time is more important).
The solution! After a few minutes of research and a nervous breakdown, I found some interesting wordpress plugins which make the all process easy and less time consuming. I really recommend that you backup and update wordpress anytime you have the opportunity so that you don’t end up like me, with a blog hacked and a broken mysql db.
Plugins that should save your time and a**:
1. Wordpress Automatic Upgrade – this plugin is fantastic! Why? Because it reduces the time you spend updating to at least one minute/blog. It will allow you to update to the newest version of wordpress, backup your database, de-activates all your plugins, maintenance mode and much more. You can see more info about this wp plugin here and a little demonstration bellow.
2. WP-DB-Backup - is another unique plugin that allows you to backup your wordpress mysql database in a nice way, ajax style. It shows you a progress bar, it allows you to backup the database on your FTP, gives you a download link or sends a direct email with a zip file attached.You can see a little demo bellow in the second part of the movie.
It is two o’clock and I finished watching an interesting movie called “Untraceable”. Thought it is not a good movie to watch at night, it was fascinating because it includes some interesting topics like Internet, hacking, FBI which I enjoy, excluding the part with killing people and video streaming the crimes online. “FBI agent Jennifer Marsh is tasked with hunting down a seemingly untraceable serial killer who posts live videos of his victims on the Internet. As time runs out, the cat and mouse chase becomes more personal.”
Unfortunately some people enjoy watching on the Internet gore and disturbing content and in my opinion they are lunatics, but that is their problem as long as I don’t meet them on the street . The fact is that this movie, “Untraceable”, was promoted and is promoting a website called killwithme.com. In the movie this website is the place where the psycho hacker was broadcasting live his crimes and in the real world, this is the website that promotes the movie (the official website), with an interesting marketing strategy. As you can see bellow in the alexa ranking charts, killwithme.com has two periods of time when it was highly browsed, on 25 January 2008 when ”Untraceable” was released in USA and this period of the month (April) when the movie was released in other countries, on DVD’s or blu-ray rips especially.
As you can see the traffic and alexa rank for this website is increasing and a funny thing is that most of the users come from the United Kingdom and not from USA where all the action happened and where the movie was released. Maybe the United Kingdom has more psychos, just joking!
It is interesting how a movie like this is able to create buzz, based on the fact that somewhere out there, there is an audience interested in a specific topic, prepared to spread the “news” worldwide. This method is called word of mouth marketing (WOMM) and it is great if you know how to use it. I have an idea and I think I’ll develop a website soon; don’t worry, I am not a killer lol .
Overall “Untraceable” is a great movie and I recommend you watch and analyze it, because who knows, maybe you’ll get an idea for a new website and just remember this: you are a web developer, not a killer.
